"Along the Penna Railroad at the Upper Falls Bridge, Portage. "
Clark Rice, Perry N.Y
1947
This photograph was taken by the well known Perry photographer Clark Rice in 1947. The view was taken along the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks looking southward toward Portageville. The women in the photo may be his wife Betty. The Erie Railroad bridge soars above her - the Genesee River and Upper Falls are hidden by trees and bushes to her right. You can see the same general view taken about 75 years earlier when the Portage Wooden Bridge carried the railroad across the gorge here.
