Smoky Hollow is located just south of the
Highbanks Camping area. This photograph, probably taken near
the beginning of the 20th century, was taken from western bank
of the Valley, looking northeast. The modern camping area is
located on the ridge that you see in the distance to the left
of the River. You can also see some of the farm activity which
took place on the rich river flats. Why was it called "Smok(e)y
Hollow"? See our Glimpse on
place names of Letchworth Park to find out why!
